He talked about the predjuice he had to deal with as many believed that black men couldn't fly in combat. They not only flew in combat, they were successful at protecting the bombers flown by white pilots, earning their respect and admiration.


It wasn't until 2007 that the Tuskegee were honored by Congress for their contributions. In honor of the release of the movie "Red Tails", Methuen Community Television is re-airing "Call to Serve: Tuskegee Airman Luther McIlwain" on Wednesday, February 1 AT 7:30 pm and Thursday, February 2 at 10:30 am.

]]> Thu, 12 Jan 2012 12:05:15 -0500 http://www.methuentv.org/newsstory.php?NewsID=141 "THE STRIKE HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD" premiers Thursday http://www.methuentv.org/newsstory.php?NewsID=140 On January 12, 1912, workers in the mills walked off their jobs and began “The Strike Heard ‘Round the World”. This January 12, MCTV member Tom Gradzewicz, a descendant of mill workers, wanted to make sure the strike was heard ‘round the Merrimack Valley.


 


Working with Jim Beauchesne of the Lawrence Heritage State Park, Gradzewicz collected photographs and accounts of the strike and created a 28 minute video called “The Strike Heard ‘Round the World: Bread & Roses 1912”.  This video is premiering on Thursday, January 12 on MCTV at 10:30 am. It will also be played on local cable television stations throughout the area at


5 pm.


 


The video, narrated by MCTV “Methuen Now” host Michelle Houle, features the voice talents of Methuen residents such as new City Councilor Jamie Atkinson, Politically Active's George Scione, Tom’s wife Fran and others filling roles of elected officials, strikers and mill owners. Gradzewicz himself portrays an immigrant in the beginning of the video, which took several months to complete.


 


Tom Gradzewicz began creating documentaries about local activities, art and history at Methuen Community Television when he retired in 2005. He has won national recognition for his “Arts & Crafts: Food for the Soul” video about the classes offered at the Methuen Senior Activity Center.


 


“I’m so pleased that the other stations have picked up the video and agreed to show it on the Anniversary of the strike,” said Gradzewicz. “This is an important part of our local history. It changed everything.”

The meetings are cablecast LIVE and available on demand on the city's website: cityofmethuen.net.


After a successful event at the Methuen Senior Activity Center on Sunday, November 13, City Councilors Jennifer Kannan and Jim Hajjar spearheaded getting the proclamation on the agenda.

From Andover, Dan "grew up" as an active member of Andover Community Television throughout his high school years. A graduate of Quinnipiac University, Dan worked at NESN on "The Big Bad Bruins Show", "The Buzz", "NESN SportsDesk", and Pre & Post game for the Boston Red Sox coverage. He also has a lot of freelance experience in all types of productions. 

 

With so much experience, Dan will be a valuable resource for all our programs. We are pleased to have him here as our fall election season kicks into high gear.
